Across UVA Health, each of us has an incredible opportunity to inspire others. Recently, I was inspired by UVA Health’s Chief Ambulatory Operations Officer, John Bennett, who shared a moving lesson during the Reflections segment at our management group meeting last week. Using the movie Invictus as backdrop, John talked about the significance of inspiration and its ability to push us to achieve what we never thought possible.
Inspired by Invictus, John shared five key takeaways:
- Vision is paramount.
- Breaking through historical baggage can yield incredible results.
- Genuinely embrace your values, both personally and professionally.
- An example is more impactful than a lecture.
- Transformation comes from inspiring and empowering others.
John proposed that if we turn collective vision into collective action, we can inspire transformation in ourselves, in others, and in UVA Health. I really loved John’s message and wanted to share the short video clip with you.
Anyone at UVA Health can be an inspiration – I am inspired every day by the work you all do to put patients at the center of everything we do. So far this year, Vision and Voice has focused on the importance of belonging. However, inspiration is another way we can grow closer together, achieving excellence in our larger mission of transforming health and inspiring hope for all Virginians and beyond.
I hope you are as inspired as I was by John’s speech, and I would love to hear about a recent inspirational moment in your work here at UVA Health. Share your thoughts with me through the BeHeard suggestion box. I look forward to reading them and sharing a few in the weeks ahead.
Take care and be well,
Wendy
