Throughout December, our Volunteer Services team is working hard to bring holiday cheer to our patients, young and old. I wanted to shine a light on one of their initiatives to fill every adult inpatient’s stocking on Christmas day.
Volunteers have handcrafted 520 beautiful stockings—the estimated number of patients we’ll have on December 25. On the holiday, volunteers will personally fill each stocking and hand them out to patients.
So far, more than 50 individuals, including team members, volunteers, and community members, have generously donated. The team is also expecting large contributions from student groups, church communities, and local organizations.
I want to personally thank all of you who have already donated to this meaningful cause. Team members have been the largest group of stocking stuffer donors and have played a big role in spreading the word to our community. The holidays can be a financially stressful time, and your kindness is deeply appreciated. On top of the extraordinary work you put in every day, your generosity speaks volumes about your commitment to the care of our patients.
While your presence at UVA Health is present enough, if you’d like to support Volunteer Services’ efforts, you can check out their Amazon Wishlist here. Items on the list include cozy socks, fun activities, room decorations, and essential toiletries—small comforts that can make a big difference for patients spending the holidays in the hospital. The drive ends tomorrow, December 18.
Thank you to everyone who is going above and beyond this season to transform health and inspire hope for all Virginians and beyond.
