Preparation is the foundation of success, and I want to take a moment to express my pride in our team members who dedicated countless hours to ensuring the recent Magnet® site visit was a success.
I couldn’t be prouder of how you showed up. Over four days, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet® appraisers met with our nurses, leaders, and interprofessional partners, visiting clinical areas and reviewing our data. They got to see firsthand what makes UVA Health University Medical Center so special: our people.
I want to extend my deepest thanks to each of you. 1,266 team members participated in the 115 sessions with the four appraisers! Whether you spoke directly with the appraisers, helped prepare for the visit in one of the 144 prep sessions or simply did your regular job with excellence, you played a role in making this a success.

Magnet designation is a reflection of who we are and the work of all of you. It represents our relentless commitment to excellence, our culture of collaboration, and a passion for delivering superior quality, patient safety, and outcomes. The site visit wasn’t about proving we are Magnet-worthy; it was about showing who we strive to be every day. And you did exactly that.
Our nurses spoke with confidence and pride, sharing their expertise and the impact they make on patients and each other. Leaders and team members across disciplines demonstrated the strength of our interprofessional partnerships. And through it all, the sense of teamwork and support was undeniable.
As we await the final decision, I hope you take a moment to reflect on what this visit represented. It was a chance to take pride in our incredible work and the amazing culture we’ve built together. You can read other team members’ reflections on the visit here.

Thank you for your passion, your dedication, and for making UVA Health University Medical Center excellent for our patients and for each other. No matter the outcome, one thing is clear: we are already living the Magnet® standard.
Take care and be well,
Wendy
