A Fresh New Look for Three Day Rooms

One of the things I love about UVA Health is the spirit of reciprocity. So often, patients, families, and team members experience and witness extraordinary care here and ask, “How can I help?” That spirit came to life recently through a generous gift that brought new energy and comfort to three nursing day rooms.

Longtime supporters Natasha and Nick Lawler wanted to show appreciation for our nurses. With Natasha’s eye for interior design, we discussed how she could make a direct impact, and an inpatient day room refresh felt like the perfect way to do just that. Our team members work long, demanding hours, and they deserve beautiful spaces to rest and recharge.

After consideration, 3 West, 4 West, and 5 West were selected based on patient acuity and team needs. Natasha met with each unit’s nurses to hear what would make their spaces more welcoming: privacy blinds, storage cabinets, comfy chairs, fresh paint, and more.

With the incredible support of nursing, facilities team, including Project Coordinator Stephen Ingram, and UVA Health Arts Program Coordinator Anne Brown, the team’s vision became reality. The rooms now feature upgraded furniture, appliances, and artwork based on the input of people who use them every day.

One especially meaningful addition: works by local artists Lauren Moses, Laura Wooten, and Karen Blair. Katharine Brooks, a professional art advisor, helped in sourcing the art and connecting Natasha and the team with these talented artists. Their vibrant pieces now brighten the rooms and are a valued part of the UVA Health art collection.

To all of our team members — thank you for all you do. And to Natasha and Nick, thank you for supporting UVA Health! In our mission of transforming health and inspiring hope for all Virginians and beyond, it is an inspiring reminder of the shared purpose that unites our community.

Take care and be well,

Wendy
