Every person facing cancer deserves not just the best medical treatment — but also comfortable and compassionate care that’s easy to access. That’s exactly what our team has worked to create with the opening of UVA Health Cancer Care Pantops.
To improve access to care in a convenient location, we’ve officially opened Cancer Care Pantops — a modern, patient-centered space designed with healing in mind. After welcoming our first patients on April 14, we celebrated the grand opening this past Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new facility features 14 exam rooms and 25 infusion chairs, with plans to expand to 40 infusion chairs by year’s end. By bringing more services under one roof, we’re making it easier for patients to receive the treatments they need, when and where they need them. Patients and families also enjoy easy parking, beautiful artwork throughout the space, stunning natural light, and serene views of the surrounding trees.

This is part of a larger effort to simplify and personalize each patient’s care journey. The former home of our cancer services will now house UVA Health Infusion and Specialty Care Pantops — our first-ever location dedicated to non-cancer infusions, offering outpatient care for patients managing conditions like anemia, arthritis, Crohn’s disease, neurological disorders, and other non-cancer health infusion therapies. The Infusion Treatment Support Program (ITSP) is UVA Health’s first dedicated support team for non-oncology infusion patients, which is already making a meaningful difference by helping patients feel more guided, informed, and supported throughout their treatment journey.

This milestone is a testament to the extraordinary collaboration and unwavering dedication of our UVA Health team, working together to make this vision a reality. A special thank-you to Blake Herring; Dr. Leigh Cantrell; Dr. Reid Adams; UVA Health Chief Strategy Officer, Jason Lineen, MBA; and their teams — along with director of the Cancer Center, Dr. Tom Loughran, and Dr. Cantrell’s predecessor, Dr. Michael Williams, whose vision helped lay the groundwork. A heartfelt thank-you as well to our strategy team, facilities team, art coordinators, operations teams, HIT, finance team, pharmacy team, and so many others whose contributions made this day possible. And to our frontline caregivers: thank you for the care and excellence you bring to every patient, every day.

As I shared in the opening announcement, we are committed to walking alongside our patients and their families during one of the hardest times in their lives. Together, let's continue blending world-class care with tranquility and kindness that inspires health and hope for all. I hope you are as excited as I am to open this new facility for our patients and our community.
Take care and be well,
Wendy
