As we wrap up self-evaluations and gear up for UVA Health Week, this season invites reflection — on where we’ve been and where we’re headed. While much of our focus is, rightfully, on improving patient care, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we ensure our team members feel connected, satisfied, and truly at home at UVA Health.
Being engaged in our best work is a great way to ensure we provide high-quality care to patients while feeling personally fulfilled. The annual Employee Engagement Survey gives us valuable insight on how we’re doing, but I believe there’s more we can learn — especially when it comes to what drives your personal sense of belonging and satisfaction.
Last fall, I approached our current Cornerstone leadership cohort with a question: How can we help team members feel more connected and energized in their work?
For those unfamiliar, Cornerstone is our leadership development program designed to grow future leaders from within our own teams. This year’s cohort embraced our project proposal by creating a brief, thoughtful survey to hear directly from you. They want to know: What brings you joy at work? What fuels your passion? And what could make your UVA Health experience even better?
The survey only takes a few minutes to complete, and you’ll be entered to win UVA Health swag, including T-shirts, hats, duffel and sling bags, and more.
You will also see members of the Cornerstone team at upcoming UVA Health Week events, ready to answer questions and explain how your feedback will help guide future efforts.
I know many of us carry a mental list of what energizes us — and what drains us. By sharing your perspective, you will help shape stronger connections, meaningful new traditions, and a workplace where we can all thrive together.
Thank you for being a part of this special project that is close to my heart!
Take care and be well,
Wendy
