As many of you have now heard, I will soon be stepping into a new professional opportunity — one that also represents a homecoming to my California roots. Serving as CEO of UVA Health University Medical Center has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Together, we have advanced exceptional care, strengthened our teams, and created meaningful, lasting change for the communities we serve.
While transitions can be bittersweet, I feel immense gratitude — and deep pride — for what we’ve built together. There will be time for goodbyes and thank-yous. Today will focus on what’s next for Vision and Voice, and what will carry forward.
When I first started Vision and Voice, it was with the simple intention of creating space — space to spotlight our work, to recognize one another, and to talk honestly about what matters most. Over time, it became much more: a way for us to stay connected through challenges, to celebrate our people and progress, and to reflect on the values we hold dear.
This marks the 199th post — a number I could never have imagined at the start. Along the way, we’ve spotlighted programs like Earn While You Learn, lifted up milestones large and small, and even had a little fun — from Halloween contests to summer photo roundups. Above all, we’ve centered our shared purpose: transforming health and inspiring hope for all Virginians and beyond.

Vision and Voice will keep going through my last day in September, and we’ll continue to highlight the meaningful work happening across the Medical Center. The FY26 priorities series will continue over on Connect, focusing on the path ahead and the dedicated team leading it.
I step away with confidence in the future of this place. UVA Health University Medical Center is in the hands of a thoughtful, mission-driven leadership team — people who lead with heart, clarity, and an unshakable commitment to those we serve. Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege to work alongside some of the most passionate and principled individuals I’ve ever known — across UVA Health and the Charlottesville community.
More than anything, I hope Vision and Voice has reminded us that our work is deeply human. It is about people — patients, families, and the teammates beside us each day. It’s about staying grounded in our mission and bold in our vision.
Thank you for reading. For engaging. For showing up — again and again — with purpose and compassion.
With care and deep respect,
Wendy
